~Arc 6: Visitors~
[People From Other Countries 1]
(Princess Mei)
A beautiful girl in a bright white kimono was looking at the elderly man in front of her with a hint of irritation, tousling her indigo hair. “Professor, the sighting of the Demon King has been reported.”
“So it seems.”
“That means we are running out of time.”
“I know. But Your Highness, your armor is still in the prototype stage. We need to conduct further trials and tests.”
“Make it quick. I want it ready to be transported as soon as possible.”
“Very well, I will try my best, though some casualties will be inevitable.”
Seen off by the white-coated elderly man and the bustling researchers, the girl left the research institute.
“Princess Mei, there you are. Please refrain from wandering off alone.”
“Dynasty Guard Captain Yamato, took you long enough. Currently, every moment is crucial, you know.”
“Yes, I understand, but haste makes waste, Your Highness.”
“Regardless, venturing into a domain tainted by the Demon King’s evil influence would be folly.”
“Are you not worrying too much?”
The man referred to as Yamato stood around two heads taller than Princess Mei, and he was clad in a suit of armor and carried a katana on his waist. He asked Princess Mei with a troubled look on his face, but she shook her head.
Reports of the sighting of the Demon King had spread to neighboring countries, the timing of which raised suspicions of a plot. “For the Demon King to emerge the same year we’re studying abroad in the kingdom, I’m afraid it’s not mere coincidence. I must prevent any harm from coming to my sister, Kokoro, as well.”
“You also have the mission to investigate the academy and the kingdom’s nobility during your study aboard,” Yamato reminded her.
“I haven’t forgotten. Gosh, if only he had waited until next year to appear, there wouldn’t be any need for me to be in such a rush.”
“The Demon King is akin to a natural disaster. His arrival is unpredictable, and his origins remain a mystery.”
Listening to Yamato’s words, Princess Mei sighed deeply. “Send a letter to the Margrave. Tell them I will be visiting soon.”
“Understood. Oh, and, Your Highness, the selection of your bodyguards is over. I’m among them.”
“You? I thought you refused to the kingdom.”
“That is true, but alongside the Demon King’s appearance, another individual has emerged that demands attention.”
“What? Aside from the first prince, Prince Eushun, and the next knight commander, Sir Guts, I can’t think of anyone worth noting. Wait, you’re not talking about Testa, the prime minister candidate, are you? He is related to the Demon King.”
As Princess Mei looked at him with suspicion, Yamato shook his head, indicating he wasn’t talking about the three young lions of the kingdom.
“No, I’m referring to the Holy Knight of Bond, who happens to be a retainer of Sir Guts. Also known as the Perverted Swordsman?, he has acquired the holy sword.”
“A man known as Perverted Swordsman obtained the holy sword? That sounds unsettling. Just to clarify, you’re talking about the holy sword, the sword said to have the power to slay the Demon King, correct?”
“Yes, it is one of only seven holy weapons.”
“I’m assuming the holy katana on your waist has shown a resonance?”
Yamato nodded his head in affirmation, and Princess Mei released a deep sigh.
“First the Demon King, now another wielder of a holy weapon, it’s one thing after another. Other countries with holders of holy weapons must have received reports of the Demon King’s appearance as well. How to deal with him will be a global trial.”
“Indeed. Moreover, there are reports of suspicious activities among kins of the Demon King within the kingdom.”
“The Ducal House of Deskustos, huh? What’s their deal, anyway? With their influence, they could easily rule Alecidus Kingdom, yet they seem content with the role of prime minister. What could their motives be?”
“That is one of the reasons why our Dynasty, the Empire, and the Theocracy surrounding the kingdom have refrained from escalating conflicts beyond mere skirmishes.”
The Demon King, the alliance of the nobles, high-rank dungeons, etc. The kingdom was simply filled with too many problems for other countries to fully invade it.
“But if turmoil erupts, not only our Dynasty but also the Empire will not remain silent.”
“Yes, they may deploy the Ishtaroth Knights.”
“That’s! …true. The thought alone gives me a headache. It’s rumored that each Ishtaroth Knight can overpower a hundred max-leveled opponents. And I’ve heard that their First Knight, Second Knight, and the newly ascended Fifth Knight possess holy weapons.”
“Well, the Empire’s reach is vast, having absorbed surrounding small countries. One can only imagine its ambitions to unify the continent.”
Demon King on one side, and the Empire on the other. They were both big headaches for the Dynasty.
“Nevertheless, our plan for me and Kokoro to study abroad in the kingdom remains unchanged. I must practice using the Battle Armor Kagura. Unlike the kingdom’s sorcery, our Dynasty’s onmyojutsu requires preparation, after all.”
“Incidentally, samurais and ninjas have also been prepared as your support.”
“I see. Oh, and hasn’t the Great Store Mido established itself in the kingdom? I should pay them a visit.”
“I’ll arrange it.”
“Good. We must proceed with utmost caution, even with our alliances with the Empire and the Theocracy.”
Princess Mei gazed up at the distant stars, wondering about the challenges that awaited her in the kingdom.
