[Hayase’s Request]
Hayase and I were seated across from each other on the reception terrace of the Black Tower, while Kuu served tea and sweets.
With Hayase being a commoner and an underclassman, none of the Black Tower members felt the need to be cautious around her. However, beyond that, none of them were foolish enough to cause trouble for my guest.
“This is so delicious~,” Hayase exclaimed with a smile.
“Thank you for always watching out for Kuu and Balnyan,” I replied.
“It’s a matter of course, we’re classmates. No need to thank me.”
“I see. So, what brings you here today?”
“For starters, let me apologize for taking up your time, Lord Luc. But I have something to report and a request to make.”
I had promised Hayase my assistance regarding Dan.
For that reason, I had told her she could seek me out whenever she needed help.
“Hmm, a report and a request, huh? Let’s start with the report.”
“Alright, it’s about the three transfer students you asked me to investigate.”
“Oh? You’ve already looked into them? Impressive.”
“Thank you. Allow me to brief you on each of them. Firstly, Princess Mei Kiyoi of the Dynasty. She’s, in a way, a good person.”
“A good person?” I asked back at the surprising assessment.
“Yes. She holds no biases against anyone, be it commoners or beastkins. She engages with everyone, sharing them stories about her country. Furthermore, while she appears to be interested in Dan, it seems to stem from his abilities rather than romantic intentions. As such, I believe she poses no threat to our relationship, which is why I said she is a good person.”
“Oh, so anyone is a good person so long as they pose no threat to your relationship? Well, that’s a good piece of information, overall. Thanks.”
“No problem. But it’s worth nothing that she is filled with ambition, as I was able to confirm after lowering her guard against me. So long as that ambition remains in the right direction, there should be no cause for concern.”
Hayase possessed the ability to delve into the minds and memories of others through her attribute magic, provided they trust her.
“Next, we have the transfer student from the Empire, Julie. It appears she hails from one of the northern countries destroyed and then assimilated by the Empire, but I couldn’t fully uncover her background. Despite her refined demeanor, she exudes a sense of military discipline.”
That description certainly fit my new drinking buddy, Julie.
“But she seems to be exceedingly cautious, and I couldn’t penetrate her thoughts.”
Julie was always on guard around me as well.
“Lastly, there’s Tia, the Saintess of the Church. She’s an enemy!”
“The Saintess is an enemy?”
“That’s right! Her boobs are so big that her blouse can hardly contain them in, and she loves to show them off in front of Dan while acting all innocent. It’s infuriating.”
Ah, so the Saintess had set her sights on Dan.
“So, do you want me to get rid of the Saintess?”
“Nope.”
“Huh? Why not? I promised to keep any women away from Dan, and I intend to uphold that promise.”
“I know. But it won’t solve the root problem.”
“The root problem?” I furrowed my brow in confusion, tilting my head to the side.
“Yes! Ultimately, this is Dan’s fault. He shouldn’t have been fooled and swayed by that vixen just because she’s got a pretty face, huge boobs, and a gentle demeanor!”
A pretty face, huge boobs, and a gentle demeanor? Well, it was hard to blame any hot-blooded young man for falling for such charms, wasn’t it?
“So, I suppose your request is related to this?”
“Yes. I’d like to ask you to thoroughly defeat Dan, Lord Luc.”
“Defeat Dan?”
“That’s right. I know the third years will be participating in a large-scale team competition and I want Dan’s team to be utterly crushed.”
“Will it benefit you, Hayase?”
“It will. If Dan is thoroughly beaten, that huge-breasted vixen will realize he’s not as strong as she thought and give up on him.”
Sounds like a major pain, I released a deep sigh, “I don’t enjoy doing troublesome things.”
“Of course, I know that. That’s why I’ll do my part by gathering information. Moreover, there are many around you who will act on your behalf if you so desire, Lord Luc.”
“I see. So, I don’t necessarily have to defeat him myself. My allies will suffice.”
Seeing my understanding, Hayase smiled brightly.
In essence, Hayase wanted to enlist Tashte’s and Rivera’s help through me, believing that, with their intelligence and leadership, they could defeat Dan.
Women really were terrifying.
“Alright, I accept your request.”
“Yay! Thank you so much, Lord Luc!”
Hayase left the terrace with joy in her steps.
Releasing another deep sigh, I asked Kuu to refill my tea.
“Pardon me, may I come in?” interrupted a woman with a gentle demeanor, her ample bosom straining against the buttons of her white blouse.
“While this terrace belongs to the nobles’ dormitory, there’s no rule against other students using it. Please, feel free.”
“Thank you. And if it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to speak with you. Could you spare me a moment, Lord Luc Hugaro Deskustos?”
“Of course, though I might not make a good conversation partner, Saintess Tia.”
“Hehe, I’m just a student here. You can simply call me by my name.”
Just a student, she claimed, yet there was a bodyguard accompanying her.
Another one stood outside, presumably to deter interruptions.
“Got it. Please, have a seat, Lady Tia.”
“Thank you,” Saintess Tia replied, settling into a chair across from me, “Well, I believe introductions aren’t necessary, so I would like to get straight to the point, if you don’t mind.”
“Of course, go ahead.”
“I would like to request that you push Sir Dan, the Holy Knight of Bond, into a corner. Would that be possible?”
Similar to Hayase’s request, but it struck me as odd coming from someone like the Saintess, known for her virtue and gentle nature.
“Could you provide more details?”
“I’m simply asking you to overwhelm Sir Dan in willpower, technique, physique, wisdom—everything.”
“Why are you asking this of me?”
“Firstly, I’ve heard from Saintess Iris that you, Lord Luc, are extraordinarily talented.”
Sister Iris, huh? Well, they were connected through the church.
“Secondly, when I inquired among commoners and students about who could rival Sir Dan, everyone immediately mentioned you, Lord Luc.”
Tashte was working diligently to contain information about me within the academy.
Naturally, he couldn’t entirely control the flow of information. While nobles would refrain from talking about me carelessly, knowing the importance of information, commoner-born students tended to openly talk about things their exciting experiences and admiration to their parents and friends, and basically everyone they knew.
“I understand. Very well, I’ll agree to your request, but on one condition.”
“A condition? What might it be? I hope it’s something within my capabilities.”
The bodyguard standing behind the Saintess seemed to tense up, displaying hostility toward me. My condition was nothing significant, though.
“I want you to promise me that you will never develop romantic feelings for Dan.”
“Huh?”
Were they caught off guard by my condition? The Saintess as well as her bodyguard looked at me with jaws agape, like literally. It was amusing to see two beautiful young ladies making such comical faces.
“Heh, hehehehe. You are truly an interesting individual, Lord Luc. If you’re concerned about me developing romantic feelings for Sir Dan, you needn’t worry. While tales often depict a saintess falling in love with a hero, Sir Dan is… far from my type.”
So she said, but there were many instances where individuals grew closer as they spent time together. This was simply an insurance for the sake of my promise with Hayase.
“Is that so? That’s reassuring to hear.”
“I never imagined you had a penchant for humor. It was quite amusing. I hope we can enjoy tea together again sometime. If you’ll excuse me.”
With our conversation concluded, Tia rose from her seat and departed. Despite her graceful and refined demeanor, she seemed to possess a depth that set her apart from the other transfer students.
