[Ruby’s Strength]

The meeting with Elina Cildy Borg Alecidus had finally wrapped up, and honestly, it left me in a sour mood.

Having already received a passionate confession from Akali earlier in the day, Elina seemed rather uninteresting to me, leading me to inadvertently give her the cold shoulder.

Though I understood that she was just trying to break free from her current circumstances in her own way, her commitment to it seemed lacking.

“Lord Luc-nya. What’s wrong-nya?” Ruby, who was cleaning, came up to me as I made my way back to my room riding Bal.

“Nothing, just not in a good mood.”

“I see-nya… Then, can you pat me-nya?” Ruby asked, extending her head toward me. Almost instinctively, I reached out and gently patted her head.

Her ears, nestled between her soft hair, felt incredibly fluffy to the touch.

After all, beastkins were the best. Her fluffiness soothed me.

“Nya~ It feels sho good-nya~.” Ruby purred, her tail swaying happily.

“Ruby, why did you choose to become my maid? Myril mentioned she wanted to repay her gratitude to me, but I’ve never asked you.”

From the very beginning, since we first met and were assigned to the same team, Ruby had always shown great regard for me.

In the game, it was mentioned that Ruby enrolled in the academy to seek out a strong individual.

And after Dan defeated her in the Sword Emperor’s Cup, Ruby recognized Dan as a strong man and chose to ally herself with him.

But I never actually fought against her. Still, right from the outset when were put on the same team, she seemed to hold a very favorable impression of me.

During the Sword Emperor’s Cup, she even surrendered to avoid fighting me.

“Because Lord Luc is… the scariest-nya.”

“I’m the scariest?”

No one had ever described me as scary before. I didn’t think it fit me, either.

“That’s right-nya. Ah, I didn’t mean it in a bad way-nya! It’s kind of hard to explain it-nya… I know-nya! It’s like when you’re in a dream that makes you feel an absolute despair-nya. You want to get up desperately, but you can’t, then the ground starts crumbling beneath you, and then you die—you give me that kind of feeling-nya!”

I couldn’t make heads or tails of her explanation.

The way she explained was bad, or should I say, disorganized? Either way, I couldn’t understand it at all.

“So, you became my maid because you’re afraid of me?”

“Kind of, but not exactly-nya.”

“Kind of, but not exactly?”

“Right-nya! You see, my heart in here says that Lord Luc is the best mate-nya.” Ruby confidently declared, proudly slapping her modest chest.

“Mate?”

“That’s right-nya. I want to bear Lord Luc’s child. Then I want to save Dad and Mom-nya!”

“Having a child and saving your parents… I can’t really see how the two are connected.”

“It’s okay-nya! I’m going to get stronger and then go save them-nya. I’d be real happy if you could join me then-nya!”

“Are your parents still alive?”

“They definitely are-nya! Even if they’re not, I’m certain they found happiness passing away together-nya! And if that’s the case, I’ll bury them-nya.”

I still couldn’t fully understand what she was talking about.

Nevertheless, it was evident that Ruby held an unwavering belief and sought my help. Even if I were to choose not to help her, she’d go save her parents by herself regardless.

“I understand. If you want my help, then I’ll assist you.”

“Really-nya?!” Ruby exclaimed, her excitement causing her to inadvertently jump onto me while I was still reclining on Bal.

“Nya! I’m sorry-nya.” She peered up at me with upturned eyes, her head resting on my chest.

“Nya~ Lord Luc smells good-nya~,” She commented, bringing her nose closer to my chest and taking a sniff, her delight evident.

I extended my hand to gently stroke her chin, eliciting a contented purr from her.

Spoiling this cat-eared maid of mind proved to be incredibly soothing.

“Ah, Ruby! That’s not fair!” Myril exclaimed, hurrying over to us.

“Myril, do you want Lord Luc to pat you too-nya?”

Myril’s face turned bright red at Ruby’s innocent question.

“T-that would be quite presumptuous~!! B-but, c-could I?”

Myril looked up at me with moist eyes.

“Sure, I don’t mind.”

“T-thank you very much!!!”

Somehow, I ended up being sandwiched between two beautiful girls and forced to pat their heads.

Just what was going on? Was this some kind of Women’s Troubles Day? First, Akali; then Elina; and now, Ruby and Myril. Dan, what the hell were you going? Your heroines were all here! Haa~ Bal’s swaying was making me feel sleepy.

“Oh right. Lord Luc. I heard that Lady Karin is planning a party for tonight.”

“A party?”

“Yes. Kobato told me she received a message from Lady Karin.”

“Why?”

“Apparently, because you have given your approval.”

Akali must have informed her. So it was a party to commemorate the establishment of the maid unit?

“Lady Karin wants us all to dress up.”

“Is that so? So, you’re going to wear a dress again, Myril?”

“Yes! Absolutely!”

“Me too-nya!”

Could I wrap up this head-patting session soon? I wanna get back to my room…
