Hi, everyone. I found out, to my utter shock, that someone was already translating Unpopular Dungeon Streamer when I added it on novelupdates. I figured I should let you guys know I may drop this, depending on the situation. But I’ll keep translating it for the time being. I mean, I’ve been working on it for months. It’s sad to let all those efforts just go down the drain. Well, on the bright side, I’ve found a couple of other interesting stories, so if worst comes to worst, I’ll just translate them. Thank you for reading this 🙂
“Haa… why isn’t my channel growing…?”
“Yeah, why isn’t it?”
The next morning, after going to school at my usual time, I slumped into my classroom seat and let out a deep sigh, lamenting yet another disappointing outcome from my stream the previous day.
“It’s been two years and still 0 average viewers… maybe I’m just not cut out for it…”
“Isn’t the fact that you don’t make results after doing it for so long awesome in itself? Hahaha,” said Yusuke sitting in the seat in front of me, turned backward with him hugging the backrest. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to lift my spirits or simply teasing me.
“But hey, look at the bright side. You’ve grown skills-wise. I’ve never heard of a high school student who can solo dive into the Lower Floors. Honestly, it is weird that an explorer of your caliber isn’t garnering much attention.”
“Ugh… you sure know how to poke where it hurts…”
“You might just not have the talent for dungeon streaming. Maybe you should focus more on selling your prowess as an explorer?”
“I’m already doing that. I even use ‘A High School Student Solo Dives into the Lower Floors’ as the title of my stream and list my exploration achievements in my profile.”
“Is that so? Hmm…”
It wasn’t like I hid my strength.
In fact, I never held back from showing off my strength, hoping to go viral.
Yet the results were far satisfactory. No one tuned in to watch me.
At least to my knowledge, there was no high school student who could dive into the Lower Floors like I could. It should have been intriguing enough for someone to drop by my stream and watch me in action.
…Maybe Yusuke was right; I lacked talent as a dungeon streamer.
“Hey, what if selling your prowess actually had the opposite effect?” Yusuke said suddenly, his expression serious after pondering in silence for a while.
“…? Opposite effect?” I asked, unable to understand what he was getting at.
“Think about it. If you told some random guy there’s a high school student who can solo dive into the Lower Floors, would they believe it? No, there’s no way they would. The notion itself is ridiculous.”
“…Really?”
“Heck, I wouldn’t believe it either, if I didn’t know you. Maybe people think your profile, exploration achievements, etc., are all lies?”
“…For real?”
Could it be that people think that my livestream title was clickbait? That my stream was fake?
Was that the case all along…?
“The struggles of high school students fighting monsters in the Upper and Middle Floors are more appealing to people.”
“…Is it fun to watch such a stream…?”
“Whether it’s fun or not, at least a lone high school student in uniform desperately trying to defeat low-level monsters is more realistic than a veteran explorer slaughtering dangerous monsters on the Lower Floors with one hand while streaming with his phone with the other hand.”
“…Ngh.”
It made sense when you put it that way.
Perhaps a complete change in the direction of my stream would be a good idea.
“Oh? Seems like she’s here.”
“Who?”
“Look over there.”
The classroom suddenly turned noisy.
Yusuke gestured towards the classroom entrance with his chin.
Concerned as I was about the direction of my stream going forward, I couldn’t help but look up and turned my attention toward the classroom entrance, where the eyes of my classmates were fixed.
“Good morning, everyone!”
With a clear voice, a beautiful girl entered the classroom with light steps.
“Morning, Kanade-chan.”
“Kanade-chan, good morning.”
“Good morning, Kiritani-san.”
“Kiritani-san, morning.”
The students waiting for her arrival in front of the classroom greeted her one after another.
“Everyone, good morning!”
The beautiful girl, our school idol, Kiritani Kanade, greeted them back with a cheerful smile.
“Kiritani, huh… Haa~…”
Seeing Kiritani instantly brighten up the classroom with just her smile made me sigh.
It wasn’t that I was fascinated by her beauty, which was enough to make her scouted by entertainment agencies. It was just…
“I envy her… she’s a very popular dungeon streamer with 2 million subscribers and an average of 50,000 concurrent viewers… she’s way above my league…”
“You don’t say.”
Yes.
Kiritani Kanade was more than just a school idol.
She was an extremely popular dungeon streamer with a massive number of subscribers and average viewership. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that there was no one who didn’t know her name in Japan’s streaming community.
“Kanade-chan! I saw your dungeon stream yesterday!!”
“You were really amazing…! I was hooked!!”
“You even had 70,000 viewers at peak! Congrats!!”
“Your stream yesterday was really enjoyable, Kiritani-san!!”
“I donated yesterday, did you notice?”
Even now, our classmates couldn’t stop talking about her stream yesterday.
Streaming every day, Kiritani had been streaming her dungeon exploration from evening till night yesterday.
After ending my own stream, I had gone home and checked the archive, and as usual, her number of viewers and comments was amazing.
She was no doubt one of the top female dungeon streamers.
“A high school student. Beautiful. Big breasted. Outgoing and has a kind personality. Plus, she’s capable of diving into the Middle Floors solo. Her popularity is inevitable, honestly.”
“…Yeah.”
As a fellow dungeon streamer, I honestly was envious of Kiritani’s popularity, but at the same time, I could see why she was so successful as a streamer.
With her great figure and stunning looks, she could give TV actresses a run for their money.
Her bright voice made you want to keep listening to it, and her genuine kindness showed through during her livestreams.
And above all, among the pitiful number of female dungeon explorers, her ability was top-notch, comparable to even veteran male explorers, and she was still a high schooler.
With all those factors, it would have been strange if she didn’t succeed.
Kanade Kiritani undoubtedly had great talent as a dungeon streamer, and her number of subscribers and average viewers proved that.
“Thanks for watching the stream, everyone! And to those who donated, thank you for your support!!”
As I stared blankly at Kiritani, who was smiling and thanking our classmates for supporting her stream, Yusuke suddenly said quietly, “Why don’t you ask her to do a collab?”
“Huh?” I unintentionally blurted out, “You’re kidding, right?”
“Dude, what other options do you have?”
“No, no… I can’t do that.”
I dismissed Yusuke’s outrageous idea.
Kiritani had average viewers of over 50,000 while I had 0.
Our popularity and name recognition were too far apart, there was no way we could do a collab.
If I were to capitalize on my position as her classmate to make her do a collab with me, people would criticize me for taking advantage of her, and I would soon be lynched at school and on the internet.
Once that happened, I would be branded as a clout-chaser in the streaming community, never able to stream again.
There was no way I could ask Kiritani to do a collab.
She probably wouldn’t even give me the time of day, to begin with.
“Well, you’ve got a point. Kiritani is way too nice for you.”
“You too, yeah.”
“Hahaha. True, that.”
We exchanged playful jabs, grinning at each other.
