[Temporary Instructor]
Life wouldn’t always go the way you wanted.
Professor Cirrus had been keeping her distance from me since then.
That said, she would secretly take glances at me, making me unsure how to deal with her. I had no idea what was thinking.
My plan for Dan seemed to be progressing well, so at least that was one less thing to worry about. But I had no idea what those girls thinking, either. I was sure that they had their own agendas, and that was fine with me. The question was whether they would genuinely fall in love with Dan.
Ugh… I was already doing everything I could, but I couldn’t help but feel it wasn’t enough… I felt stuck.
Should I go to some dungeon to grind experience points?
A person’s level was capped at 99, but I couldn’t be sure until I got there myself. But you could only become so strong by raising your level.
I had to keep other methods open, like augmenting Bal and raising the amount of my mana.
Deadly sin magic… I hadn’t understood the true danger of [Sloth].
The backlash from pushing the deadly sin magic to the limit in the fight with the Black Dragon was more severe than I had expected.
Having used [Sloth] to the point of bottoming out my mana, I was now constantly plagued by fatigue.
Maybe because my enemies had been weak and I hadn’t used it that much? I hadn’t noticed it until now, but [Sloth] didn’t just make my opponent slothful, but also… myself.
Ever since defeating the Black Dragon, I had been feeling unmotivated and lazy to do anything.
“Lord Luc.”
“Kuu… sorry, but could you lend me your shoulder?”
“Yes, of course.”
I felt sleepy many times a day, and I could barely function if I didn’t follow the urge.
“Deadly sin magic, huh…”
“Did you say something?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
Supported by Kuu, I lay down on Bal.
Thankfully, Bal could operate by itself, so I could sleep anywhere.
I had to somehow obtain Professor Cirrus’s power… My time was running out.
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
I started lying down on Bal even during class.
I was practically asleep for half of the day.
“From today until the end of the Sword Emperor’s Cup, Lord Guts Sword Marshall will be teaching your combat training class as a temporary instructor.”
Guts Sword Marshall entered the Class 0 classroom at Professor Cirrus’s introduction.
Lyncean’s older brother, he currently served as the commander of the first division of the kingdom’s knights. His ability was said to put him in contention for first or second place in the knight order, apart from his father, Duke Marshall.
“I’m genuinely glad for this opportunity to coach you, my juniors. The name’s Guts Sword Marshall. My rank is still that of a humble knight, so you can call me whatever you like.”
The Marshall Faction and the Royal Faction responded to Guts’ introduction with friendly applause.
Thinking it didn’t concern me, I decided to take a sleep.
“Lord Luc.”
When I woke up, I found myself in the middle of the arena.
“Rivera?”
“I’m truly sorry. I tried to stop him because I knew were asleep because you were tired, but…”
Her glasses were nowhere to be seen.
Exhaustion was clearly visible on her face.
Guts Sword Marshall was standing across from me with his sword at the ready.
“Hmm…” I somehow understood the situation.
I could see Lyncean and Elina in the audience seats.
Both of them didn’t seem to be in a very good condition either as they looked at me with apologetic expressions.
Ruby and Akali glared at Guts with angry expressions, while Myril with disappointment.
“Guts.”
“That’s Mr. Guts for you, Luc Hugaro Deskustos!”
Mr. Guts heaved his sword onto his shoulder, trying to look intimidating.
“I have a question.”
“Okay, shoot.”
“It seemed you have forced me–while I was asleep–to the arena, and half of my classmates are looking at you with animosity. What is going on?”
Several members of the Royal Faction and those of the Marshall Faction shot looks of hostility toward me.
Dan seemed confused by the situation, and Tashte looked apologetically at me, seeming worn out too.
“Nothing complicated, really. Class 0 is just too weak, simple as that. A glance is enough to see that.”
“……I see.”
When I looked at the audience seats again, I noticed that Ruby and Akali seemed ragged too.
They must have fought Guts to try to stop him.
“Do you have a death wish?”
“What? Are you going to kill me? Can you even do that? 2nd year Class 0 ranked 1st, Luc Hugaro Deskustos.
“If you lose to me, Class 0 will become my slaves, following all my orders until the end of the Sword Emperor Cup.”
“Hmm. And what if I win?”
“I’ll become your slave and follow all your orders.”
I wasn’t surprised to hear that.
Guts, Lyncean’s older brother, was a passionate knight.
Even if he had to force others to do something, he would still do it if he thought it was the right thing to do.
“Haa, not interested.”
“Are you sure? If you refuse, you’ll lose. Just imagine the hell that awaits you and your classmates.”
An abnormal amount of murderous intent contained in the coercion.
The pressure was so strong that several people in the arena became unable to breathe.
“Oh right. What level are you, Luc? Tell me so I know how much I should hold back. Just so you know, I recently made it to level 99.”
Guts showed the magic watch on his arm.
I activated my own magic watch.

“It’s 84.”
“Oh, that’s quite high.”
I hadn’t checked my status for a long while; I couldn’t help but be surprised. Bal did most of the monster subjugation, but all of Bal’s accomplishments belonged to me.
“To think you have the highest level in class. I heard you always do nothing but sleep. How did you do that?”
“I dunno. I kill monsters while I’m sleeping, maybe?”
“Nice joke. Just by the fact that you’re the top of Alecidus Royal Academy, I know just how much its standards have dropped.”
In the game, Guts was Dan’s strongest card.
He would be the one to take down Testa.
Fueled by his hatred toward House Deskustos for plotting to overthrow the kingdom, he fought Testa, his long-time rival, tooth and nails.
He sought strength and had the ability to obtain it—he was really strong. He was the figure Lyncean and Dan looked up to, motivating them to be as strong as him.
But in the game, did he appear as an instructor in the second year…? I couldn’t seem to recall it. There might have been a similar event in the game, but my memory was becoming vague because of my recent lethargy.
“Fight me, ranked one.”
I guess I couldn’t refuse, or else it was going to be super troublesome.
Furthermore, I was curious about something. I wanted to see how far I could go against one of the strongest people in existence without using [Sloth].
“Alright, fine. What’s the rules?”
“Anything goes, no holds barred. And no killing. The one who can’t continue to fight first lose.”
“Okay.”
I transformed Bal into a weapon.
“Is that your weapon? Interesting.”
I didn’t really need a weapon.
Bal wrapped around my body, transforming into armor.
