[Conclusion]
“Huff… puff…”
Guizar couldn’t follow Hazen. Hazen had escaped his sight numerous times, and just as many times could have taken his life. Every time Guizar managed to spot Hazen, he would almost immediately disappear again.
Was the gap between them truly so vast? So unbridgeable?
Then, just as Guizar lost sight of Hazen for the umpteenth time, a large hole suddenly opened in the ground, sending rocks flying.
“Ugh… Where are you?!”
Frantically scanning his surroundings, Guizar couldn’t locate the black-haired young man anywhere, instead…
A shadow?
He noticed a shadow on the ground, but it shouldn’t be there.
“H-how…?”
There was Hazen, suspended upside down in the sky. Standing on a piece of broken rock, the black-haired young man grinned and swung his magic wand.
Instantly, a pressure unlike anything Guizar had ever felt descended upon him, slamming him forcefully into the ground.
“Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!”
“Huff… huff… huff…”
Gasping for breath, Hazen touched down on the ground and approached General Guizar.
“Ugh… mngh…”
“Huff… puff… I-I guess this settles it, right?”
Hazen flopped down beside General Guizar, gazing up at the sky. It presented an unusual scene—laying next to an enemy general in the midst of battle.
As his bones screamed in pain, Guizar strained to turn his head and, breathless, asked, “How… did you appear in the air?”
“My magic wand, Floatwing. It nullifies the user’s weight, allowing me to step on broken rocks in the air. Of course, the rocks were marked, too.”
“…What was the magic wand that attacked me?”
“Groundbind. It triples gravity in a 30-meter radius. It’s limited by its 10th-grade magic gem, but by minimizing the area of effect to the limit, it can increase the gravity by 30 times. It takes some moments to activate, so I had to make sure you couldn’t interrupt me.”
“……”
Until Hazen delivered the final blow, he had skillfully maneuvered in front, behind, left, and right of Guizar, creating the illusion that he wouldn’t ascend into the sky. Such a meticulous plan showcased the cunning of the magician named Hazen Heim.
General Guizar’s expression brightened.
“Brilliant… I lost.”
“Then you are mine now, General Guizar.” Hazen smiled.
General Guizar smiled back, closing his eyes and nodding. “Yeah. Never thought there was a monster like you in this world. I fully accept my defeat.”
“That’s good to hear… Okay, breaktime’s over.”
Hazen immediately got up and stretched.
“Are you still going to fight?”
“Of course. I’ve got a war to end.”
“…You may have subdued me, but the Principality of Diord won’t retreat that easily.”
“No, they will.”
“What are you talking about? Our army still holds a huge numerical advantage. And while we’ve lost a few commanders, there are still Royal Guard Commander Randbull and Armor Commander Zonan. They are strong.”
In his fatigued condition, Hazen probably wouldn’t be able to defeat them.
“Hmm. Well, I guess it’s best to take you as a prisoner first.”
“…What do you mean?”
Before Hazen could answer General Guizar’s question, Warrant Officer Vass ran up to him.
“Take him to jail. Ensure to treat him with respect.”
“Yes, sir. O-oh, and, sir? The enemy has started advancing.”
“……”
As expected. General Guizar’s prediction was correct, and Hazen’s prediction was wrong. However, the black-haired young man showed no signs of disturbance.
“I see… It seems I was a little off. Well, I’m not a god. From here on out, it’s going to be a simple war of attrition. Hold out for a few more hours.”
“U-understood, sir.”
Warrant Officer Vass replied, then he lent his shoulder to General Guizar, who remarked, “A few hours? The attack will continue for days. Why would they retreat just because the general they knew just recently was defeated?”
“…Well, time will tell.”
Hazen muttered, and the next moment, a messenger rushed his way.
“Huff… huff… Second Lieutenant Hazen, sir! All soldiers of the Principality of Diord are retreating!”
“T-that’s impossible…” General Guizar muttered involuntarily.
“I see. A bit late, but it seems they did it. I knew it was a good idea to send them out as a detached unit.”
“…A detached unit?”
General Guizar inquired, and Hazen nodded with a triumphant expression.
