SLO Chapter 34

[Comfy Dungeon Exploration]

The forest dungeon was located in a mountain on the academy grounds.

The dungeon had taken up most of the mountain, and it had been confirmed that the dungeon core was in a cave near the top.

It was equal to level 3 dungeons size-wise, but because the academy students never stopped culling its monsters, the dungeon couldn’t level up and remained as a level 2 dungeon.

“Lord Luc, are you tired? Would you like some water?” The orphaned scholar, with a rope wrapped around her waist, cheerfully asked.

I’d asked Karin, and she’d said Myril was the sister of the boy whom I’d saved at the orphanage we used to visit and donate food to.

It had only been then I’d remembered something like that happened, though.

She’d also mentioned that Myril had paid a visit to her to thank her for everything as well as to ask permission to take care of me since she had been put on the same team as me to return the favor.

“Nah, it’s okay. I’m not thirsty.”

“I-is that so… Then, is there… anything you would like me to do for you?”

“Nothing at the moment, I guess. Ah, shoot there.”

“As you command!”

She wasn’t my maid, but she did everything I told her to, saving me a lot of work. I was really glad to have her around.

Huh? What were we doing now, you asked? Exploring the dungeon, duh.

Miss Female Knight had said we had to do a trial run for the extracurricular lesson since it was the weekend and dragged us here by force.

Even though it was just a waste of time.

That said, I didn’t really mind it since I simply cast magic while riding Bal.

Myril pulled me along and Bal acted as an airbag in case I was going to collide, so I didn’t have to move even the slightest. Ah, bliss.

“I defeated them.”

“Well done~.”

“I’ve collected their magic stones-nya!”

“Good work~.”

Myril and Ruby acted as my hands and feet. They defeated the monsters and collect their magic stones and by-products for me.

Dungeon sure was amazing. Through the Magic Watch, I found out that you could also get exps as long as you played a part in defeating a monster.

My Monster Subjugated count showed 0, but I had made it to level 5.

All I did was put the monsters to sleep, then Myril and Ruby would kill them, collect their magic stones and by-products, and put them in the Magic Bag that Karin had bought for me. I wasn’t really sure how it worked, but I decided to not think too much about it, as long as I didn’t have to move.

“Hey!”

“Hm? What’s up?”

“Tell me, which part of this is dungeon exploration?”

“What’s wrong with it?”

“What’s not wrong with it!!!”

Why was she getting so mad? She had the least contribution to the team, too.

Although I didn’t move, I used my attribute magic [Sleep] to put all monsters within a 30-meter (100 ft) radius to sleep. It was a piece of cake thanks to my newly invented spell, Auto Sleep Arrow. It worked in combination with Search, my other original attributeless magic, and could automatically put any hostiles to sleep.

Myril used her bow to defeat the monsters.

Ruby finished off the monsters that hadn’t yet dead and collected their magic stones.

Lyncean was the only one that completely did nothing. What right did she think she had to be yelling at me?

Oh, maybe she was in her time of the month? Better ignore her, then.

“…………”

“Don’t ignore me!”

“You’re so loud~. What are you dissatisfied with?”

We were exploring the dungeon safely and comfortably. I didn’t get why she was so dissatisfied with it.

“Everything! Why are you riding and laying comfortably on a cushion?!

“Why is Myril pulling you?!

“Why are the monsters sleeping instead of attacking us?!

“How are we supposed to get combat experience this way!!! Haa haa haa.”

Lyncean was out of breath after shouting all that in one breath.

“Myril, explain, please.”

“Yes! Please leave it to me!”

I was too lazy to explain, so I left it to Myril.

“The reason Lord Luc is lying on the cushion is because he doesn’t like to move and because he wants to concentrate.

“I am pulling Lord Luc so that he doesn’t have to move!

“The monsters are sleeping thanks to Lord Luc’s magic!

“Dungeons are dangerous places, and I’m not good at fighting, but this way I can defeat monsters with a bow and easily level up! That’s all.” She explained concisely.

After that, Myril showed her head to me as if asking for a headpat, saying, “I’ve fulfilled your order, Lord Luc.”

I patted her head with “Well done.”

“Ah~, that’s unfair-nya. I want headpats too-nya.”

Ruby, having just got back from collecting magic stones, also came to my side opposite Myril, so I gave her head some pats too.

I had no idea why these cute girls only wanted headpats for their services, but I wouldn’t complain. It wasn’t much work, either.

“That’s what I’m saying! Dungeons are dangerous places!!

“But we’re supposed to take up the challenge by working together so we may strengthen our bond and become stronger!

“Yet all we’ve been doing is finishing off sleeping monsters!”

Lyncean kept screaming even though we were in a dungeon. Did she have no sense of danger?

She herself said that dungeons were dangerous, but here she was, attracting monsters by being so loud. I hoped she could use her head a bit more.

“Haa~, and? What’s wrong with that?”

We could safely hunt monsters.

We got stronger as our levels went up.

Our team didn’t have to risk our lives.

The dungeon exploration went well.

We all got stronger and the academy became safer.

What could be wrong with that?

“I-I… nothing…”

The dungeon absorbed monsters’ bodies, so we could just leave them as they were after harvesting all their useful parts.

Moreover, killing a large number of monsters would weaken the dungeon. The weaker the dungeon got, the weaker the monsters it could produce, and by extension, the safer other teams would be.

We could level up easily and help others at the same time. What was wrong with that?

“However… this way of fighting…” Lyncean was left at a loss for words.

“Hey, do you have a hobby of putting your friends in danger?”

“Of course not! I just…”

“Monsters are enemies that we must eliminate, aren’t they?

“If we can defeat them easily, shouldn’t everyone be happy, then? Do you realize how unreasonable you are being now?”

Did I really need to state all that obvious stuff?

But I guessed it couldn’t be helped considering Lyncean was a battle junkie. Fighting was in her bones.

“……”

Seeing Lyncean fall silent made the other two look uncomfortable.

“Haa~, if you’re not feeling well, let’s call it a day. We can’t possibly continue if our leader isn’t feeling up for it.”

“P-please wait. I… was wrong. Let us proceed. We still have time.”

Afterward, Lyncean started silently helping Ruby kill monsters that had yet to die after taking Myril’s arrows and collect their magic stones and so, we finished our first dungeon exploration.

After submitting the magic stones to the academy, we were just about to split up when Lyncean stopped us.

“Luc Hugaro Deskustos.”

“What is it?”

“I’d like to challenge you to a Ranked Match.”

“Haa~, have you forgotten about what I said after defeating Dan? I’ll kill you, you know?”

“……”

Lyncean just stared at me, her eyes filled with unwavering resolve.

“Even if you look at me that way… Haa~, what a pain. Ruby.”

“Here-nya!”

“I choose you as my proxy. Fight her on my behalf.”

“Leave it to me-nya!”

“W-wait! What would be the point of that?!”

Since she decided to be selfish and try to settle things in battle without a care for my wish, don’t blame me for being selfish, too.

Imposing your will on others was plain wrong.

“What would be the point? I don’t know. I’m not the one asking for a fight. Besides, you have an ulterior motive, haven’t you? Let me guess, if you win, you want me to fight monsters without using magic, don’t you? To force me to face danger?”

“T-that’s not…”

Lyncean’s eyes shook, and she appeared lost.

“As I said before, I’ll kill barbarians that try to settle things with strength alone.

“In spite of that, you still challenge me. To prove which of our ways is correct, I take it? Well, I’ve appointed a proxy.

“If she loses, I might listen to you.

“But if she wins, I’d have you listen to me and I wouldn’t want to hear a single complaint.”

This was as much concession as I could give.

The main reason I did this was of course because I didn’t want to fight, it was a pain, but I couldn’t deny that I also wanted to let her vent her emotions and calm down.

Being the battle junkie that she was, fighting was the only way for her to relieve her pent-up feelings, after all.

“…All right. Ruby, would you please?”

“Okay-nya. I challenge you to a Ranked Match-nya!”

“I accept.”

It sure was a pain to take care of troublesome girls~.
