SLO Chapter 56

[First Year Sword Emperor’s Cup 3]

(Tashte Park Nezul Side)

My name is Tashte Park Nezul.

Born into a count household, I would be inheriting a small territory in the future.

However, Nezul County lacked arable land since its terrains were rocky… the county was basically a wasteland.

Still, nobles must pay taxes to the kingdom.

As a result, day after day Father continued fighting poverty and struggling to feed our people… or at least that had been the case when I had been a kid.

With the help of a certain person and Father’s efforts, the current Nezul County was able to thrive thanks to the success of a business.

As a result, we were now able to live a satisfying life without needing to worry about money.

The kingdom’s first ever theme park, [Nezul Park].

Built in the middle of the wasteland, it offered peak modern entertainment.

It had various rides and cute mascots that children could play with.

It didn’t cater to children only. We also had a casino and a theater, places for adults to have social gatherings. As such, children and adults both could forget reality and simply enjoy themselves when they come to our territory.

Father said all this was possible due to the support from Duke Deskustos.

Hence why I pledged my absolute loyalty to the Ducal House of Deskustos and decided to enroll in Alecidus Royal Academy.

So that I could enter the same class as Lord Luc who was the same age as me and become his hands and feet, I put in a gargantuan amount of effort into studying magic, combat skills, and etiquette.

As a result, I was able to make it into Class 0 with my own efforts alone. It made me proud.

Now I could finally serve Lord Luc Hugaro Deskustos… or so I’d been telling myself. Yet, when I saw him for the first time, I was overwhelmed with awe, and almost prostrated myself to him, speechless.

He was as beautiful as his older sister, Iris Hugaro Deskustos.

He scored the second-highest in magic in our year and his combat ability was so incredible that he was able to demolish an aspiring knight who had been trained in the way of combat since he was little.

There was no waste in his movements, and although he was always sleeping and seemed unmotivated, he got high scores on the tests.

How could such a perfect person exist…?

I paid close attention to Lord Luc and noticed that every move he made was refined.

Every time I saw Lord Luc, I was always so moved to tears.

I continued to improve myself so that I might fulfill Lord Luc Hugaro Deskustos’ orders if one day he so required.

Then on the day of the Sword Emperor’s Cup.

An attendant of the son of Marquis AcGee approached me… Marquis House of AcGee, rumors about them were less than pleasant.

A bunch of ruffians, a mercenary band of nobles, etc… they were a family of war hawks. I didn’t really want to get too close to them although we were both part of the Noble Faction.

“Hey, yer the kid from Nezul House, ain’tcha?”

The upperclassman who called out to me looked very vulgar.

I knew he was a subordinate of AcGee House, but this was the first time I’d met someone who was inelegant as him.

“Might you need something with me?”

“Lord Caligula got an order for you. Poison the first years who might get in Lord Caligula’s way.”

“…Why would he ask for me specifically?”

“Ha, are you playin’ dumb? Everyone knows the Nezuls are experts at these kinds of things. You guys are the dogs of the Ducal House of Deskustos.”

He mocked my family to my face… I clenched my fists and began racking my brains about how to best get back at him when…

“Hey, what are you guys doing?”

Lord Luc called out to me!!!

It seemed the upperclassman also recognized Lord Luc who was floating on a cushion, he immediately bolted away from the scene.

“I greet you, Lord Luc! Thank you for your kind help.”

I had introduced myself to him before, but I’d never talked to him like this.

I immediately got down on my knee and bowed.

“No problem. We have to look out for each other as classmates, right?”

“However… no, I suppose Lord Luc is just that kind of person.”

What a kind soul he was… although he was way higher-ranked than me, he wasn’t arrogant and treated me as his equal.

“Mhm. So? Who was that?”

“He was an attendant sent by Marquis AcGee’s son.”

“Marquis AcGee’s son? What does he need you for?”

“…Um, well, just some monkey business…”

When I hesitated, Lord Luc looked like something dawned on him.

“Oh~ I see… So he wants you to do his dirty work?”

“…Yes… to poison this year’s top participants, to be exact… but I don’t want to do such a thing…”

If it was for Lord Luc, I’d gladly do it.

However, I didn’t want to act for the son of Marquis AcGee.

“Say, Tashte.”

“Y-yes!”

“My subordinate or AcGee’s, which one would you rather be?”

As the meaning of the question hit me, I felt my heart grow hot.

“Underling? Ah, of course, I would rather serve you, Lord Luc.”

“Good. You don’t need to listen to what that AcGee guy says, then. If he finds trouble with you, just tell him you only listen to my orders.”

“S-so, does that mean you want me to work for you?”

“Hmm~, I guess, yeah? Say you can’t help him because you have to help me.”

Was this order not only to protect me but also his way of telling me to fulfill his wish?

“I-I understand. I, Tashte Park Nezul, pledge my eternal loyalty to Lord Luc.”

I understood your intention, Lord Luc! I was truly moved. You finally used me as your underling.

To this day, I had learned all manners of things to serve Lord Luc.

I would employ all of them to make Lord Luc’s wishes come true. Even if I had to make my hands dirty, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it.

All to fulfill Lord Luc’s wishes…
