[Devil of Devils]
“…”
“…”

Click.
Helena instinctively closed the door. The devil… the devil was here. Desperately, she hoped—no, prayed that she was mistaken, that she was just hallucinating.
“She closed the door.”
The carefree voice of a little girl echoed. Hazen Heim with a little girl? That seemed utterly implausible to Helena. She must have been hallucinating, after all—so she reassured herself over and over again.
But then…
“Well, it’s morning and she hasn’t got the chance to wear makeup. She’s so fussy about appearance, you know? She won’t even wear her glasses despite her poor eyesight. Although, personally, I think she should focus more on fixing her rotten personality.”
“…! Ugh…”
Reality hit Helena hard. There was no mistaking it.
The cold tone, the heartless evaluation—it all mirrored the devil from her nightmare. Hazen Heim, the devil among devils.
“Urgh… uuuuurp.”
Nausea overwhelmed her, and she felt sick and cold—physical manifestation of her mental anguish.
Trembling, Helena turned the doorknob once more, feeling as though she were opening the gates of purgatory. But not opening it wasn’t an option.
If she didn’t, he would just destroy it.
“W-welcome back.”
“I’m back, Foster Mother. It’s been half a year, hasn’t it?”
As Hazen smiled radiantly, Helena forced a smile back, devoid of any happiness. Behind him she spotted a little girl, appearing to be six years old.
“Uhm… this girl is?”
“Ah, let me introduce you. This is Yan, and from today forward, she will be your daughter.”
“…Huh?”
Helena questioned if she had misheard. Yet, the man before her had made the ludicrous declaration with utter seriousness, so maybe she hadn’t. Nothing was too far-fetched when it came to him—the same man who, on their first encounter, had slapped her, abducted her, confined her, threatened her into a marriage, and forced her to claim him to be her son—a biological one, no less.
Currently Helena was 33 and Hazen was 19. There was a glaringly small age gap between them for them to be a biological mother and son. So, a cover story was concocted, alleging she became pregnant with him at 13 due to a promiscuous lifestyle.
“…”
Reflecting on the past, Helena came to a realization: Ah, I’m going to become a mother of two.
“Come on, Yan. Say hello.”
“Uh… she seems really confused. Perhaps some explanation would help?”
“That’s unnecessary.”
“……”
Ah, her son remained unlovable as always. In contrast, the girl behind him attempted to stick up for her, despite this being their first meeting.
“W-why are you so cold to her?! She’s your foster mother, isn’t she?”
“Not legally. According to the family register, I’m her biological son, and we’re related by blood. If I were adopted, suspicions might arise that I’m a spy from another country. But calling her mother makes me want to retch, so I call her foster mother.”
“That last part could’ve been left unsaid. But since you two are supposed to be biologically related, it’s only proper that you call her mother.”
“She doesn’t deserve it.”
“……”
This is hell, Helena thought.
“She is rotten to the core. She once worked as a receptionist at the guild’s headquarters, but behind the scenes, she trafficked people for the slave guild. She could have lived normally, without having to worry about making ends meet, but no, she chose to live luxuriously, consequently committed such despicable acts—a true scumbag.”
“……”
Hazen introduced her in the worst possible light.
“T-that’s enough. Miss Helena, I’m Yan Lin. I hope we can get along from now on.”
“…Aww.”
So cute. Bowing gently, the beautiful baby-faced girl offered Helena a bright smile. Amidst the shock caused by Hazen, Helena hadn’t noticed before, but this girl—she was normal and so adorable. If it was this girl, Helena would be thrilled to have her as a daughter.
“Hehe… you’re so cute.”
Helena instinctively reached out to pat Yan’s head.
But Hazen immediately seized her arm and twisted it.
“Gah… it hurts, it hurts, it hurts!!!”
“…Hey.”
“Eep!”
Hazen’s piercing gaze weighed heavily on Helena, as if crushing her heart. She couldn’t get it. All she had done was try to pat the girl’s head, so why was he reacting like this?
But Hazen paid no mind to her confusion. He spat out his words.
“Don’t even entertain the thought of selling Yan to the slave guild. Otherwise, you’ll regret ever being alive.”
“I-I wasn’t planning to! I would never even consider it!”
“Only those who’ve never committed evil deeds never consider them. But for someone like you, devoid of empathy? Who knows?”
“Please stop! Don’t you have any pity for her?!”
Unable to hold back, Yan spoke up in defense of Helena.
“Huh. How many times do I have to drill it into you? People like her will never learn, so you have to make doubly sure they know their place. You should learn to be more vigilant. If you two ever clash, you won’t stand a chance against her as she’s physically stronger than you.”
“I think you should learn to be more kind to those around you instead!”
“Haha.”
“I wasn’t joking!”
Yan screamed in vexation, and Hazen turned his attention back to Helena.
“Anyway, how are things with Sandoval?”
“H-he moved in, and we’ve been living together peacefully.”
For that, she had to thank this devil. They had married on their first meeting, without any love between them. But now it was different. Because Sandoval, he… carried similar sins as hers.
Under Hazen forceful control, they found solace in each other’s pain. It didn’t take long for them to connect. They chose to bear their burdens together and move forward.
She could say it with confidence.
That she truly, and genuinely love him—
“Divorce him.”
“……Huh?”
